While Guild Wars 2 lacks a designated tank class, there are still more viable classes from which to make the best build than others.
When it comes to Tanks, Guild Wars 2 lacks designated classes, instead allowing players to create their own builds to use within the system. In general, foes and bosses will target the character with the highest Toughness stat, making any class theoretically feasible for tank construction.
Of course, some classes are far stronger at dealing with incoming damage than others. Some can heal themselves and the party, while others can block and even counter incoming attacks. The Taunt mechanic is fairly limited in the game, with only a few classes having access to it. But where there is a will, there is a way, and nothing can stop eager gamers from taking on the hardest-hitting bosses with the oddest builds on the squishiest heroes.
Reaper – Necromancer

Reapers are notoriously tough to eliminate. These necromancers take their undeath practise very seriously, as evidenced by their large health pool and multiple life-steal mechanics. Reapers can consistently take on bosses and big groups of opponents without worrying about their health being too low.
While it can be a greedy class with little usefulness in teamplay, it is still a dependable tank to have in the party. With increased health pools, self-cleansing, and a reasonable DPS output, it is a relatively underappreciated tanking class. It is critical to pay attention to cooldowns, as wasting all of the sustaining abilities may leave the player vulnerable for some time.
Scrapper – Engineer

Because of its versatile defensive skills and supportive tools, this Engineer Elite Specialisation in Guild Wars 2 is a very effective tank. The Scrapper can use its medium armour and strong toughness to endure incoming damage while showering boons and heals on teammates. It also possesses a plethora of defensive abilities, like as blocking, evasion, and healing, which makes it extremely resilient in battle.
Scrapper’s one-of-a-kind gyros provide important assistance to allies, such as condition clearing, boon sharing, and regeneration. It can provide much-needed utility in group content through crowd management and damage reduction, making it a valuable asset. Once a player has worked out the quirks and subtleties of playing the Scrapper, it becomes a very enjoyable and gratifying class to play.
Spellbreaker – Warrior

Aesthetically, it’s a fantastic class with a rich narrative that is deeply ingrained in the world’s history, based on the enigmatic Mist. The Spellbreaker’s skills are geared on tanking, allowing them to absorb damage while also protecting their friends. With powerful defensive powers like “Defiant Stance” and “Riposte,” they may successfully mitigate damage and protect their squad by blocking, evading, and reflecting assaults.
Spellbreakers provide versatility to players by allowing them to switch between roles. They can smoothly transition from tanking to support or damage-dealing, giving them versatility in a variety of situations. Because of their flexibility, they are useful in a variety of content, from dungeons to raids and beyond.
Druid – Ranger

Druids are an excellent choice for people interested in Healers, but they are capable of much more. If they opt to withstand the opponents’ onslaught for their squad, their rejuvenation powers will easily sustain them. It is also a strong fit for raids because it has numerous powerful boons and buffs that are specific to this class.
They also feature some of the strongest utility skills in the game, including basic CC, pushes, and revives. While their defensive abilities aren’t particularly strong, they can overheal incoming damage for themselves and the squad with tankier trinkets and gear. They have very minimal damage, but that is why this is an excellent team composition choice.
Herald – Revenant

The Herald is well-equipped to thrive as a tank. The Herald can efficiently buffer incoming damage, boost its survivability, and manipulate enemy movement with its Facet of Nature and Facet of Chaos abilities. This enables it to defend its allies and seize the initiative in group encounters.
Furthermore, the support capabilities are priceless. Its Legendary Dragon Stance abilities heal, cure conditions, and bestow boons on friends, increasing their survival and effectiveness in battle. The Herald’s support abilities also mesh nicely with those of other professions, making it an invaluable ally. Furthermore, Herald is one of the only classes with a specific taunt ability.
Untamed – Ranger

The Untamed is an intriguing take on the Ranger, adding a slew of much-needed utility and defensive abilities that make it a highly capable tank. The Untamed can take a hit and keep hitting since they have excellent damage mitigation and access to stability boons.
It is a self-sufficient dps-tank breed with little direct benefit for the group’s allies. Untamed, on the other hand, can reliably pull aggro if things get out of hand thanks to Ranger’s access to Pet taunt. With its high damage and protective abilities, it makes an excellent foundation for a group.
Firebrand – Guardian

Firebrands are extremely potent in group content; with excellent healing and buffs. They have long been at the forefront of many raiding groups. Firebrands have a lot of defensive stats to begin with thanks to their heavy armour, making them far more tough than the Light and Medium armoured classes.
Guardians have always been one of the tankier classes. And the Firebrand adds so much to the kit that it is easy to take on the designated Tank role. Furthermore, they have a tonne of healing for both the party and themselves, ensuring that their squishy backline is well protected.
Mechanist – Engineer

The Mechanist is a highly effective support with burst regeneration, shield production, and persistent healing. However, with just a few armour and trinket changes, they shine as a tank. They can easily negate practically any attack in Drive Mad game with Aegis, insulating themselves from injury.
The pet Jade Mech can also assist with incoming assaults, generate buffs around itself. And even act as a defensive barrier to block all incoming bullets. Because of the slightly lesser range of healing skills, the Mechanist makes an excellent tank-healer. As they may remain in front of the boss while producing barriers and continuously healing the group.
Chronomancer – Mesmer

For a long time, the Chronomancer was a highly sought-after tank due to its exceptional versatility and unique features. They always provided extraordinary usefulness and control to the battlefield. And certain bosses nearly always required a Chronomancer in the group. Because of its ability to alter time and space. It was capable of great crowd control, boon creation, and damage mitigation.
It is a very dynamic and energetic playstyle that requires a lot from the player. But is extremely rewarding if mastered. The Chronomancer, with their unique powers to generate duplicates, teleport, and block, can control the course of the combat while functioning as a tangible shield for their teammates to stand behind.
The PC version of Guild Wars 2 is now available.
