The District Development Council (DDC) is a brand new level of local autonomy that was created by the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2020. It was created as part of the efforts by the government to decentralize power, and also promote grassroots democracy in the region.
DDC DDC ( DDC full form) is a representative body that is comprised of members elected from each district. Members are elected through an open election process that takes place each five-year period. The DDC is able to design, approve, and implement development programs and plans in the district.
The main duties of the DDC include:
- Preparation of plans for economic development and social justice in the district
- Implementation of development plans and plans
- The monitoring and evaluation development activities in the district
- Coordination with local bodies in order to ensure efficient implementation of development programs
- Mobilization of resources to support development activities
- Promotion of transparency and accountability in local government
The establishment of the DDC is considered a significant step towards empowering local communities as well as promoting inclusive development across Jammu and Kashmir.
